Mass Timber Manufacturer
– Job Duties
o Produce mass timber structural components to the expected standard of quality using a variety of hand tools and equipment, and visual models both printed and digital.
– Min. 6 months experience in:
o Working in a mass timber manufacturing plant
o Fabricating mass timber structural components in various softwood species such as Douglas fir, western red cedar, yellow cedar, and hemlock, in solid timber, glue-laminated, grain-matched, and edge-matched materials.
– Required Skills and Knowledge
o Safely operate a forklift while carefully handling high value mass timber products.
o Able to interpret computer models using Sketchup Viewer and Cadwork applications.
o Able to safely and competently use both power hand tools and manual hand tools. E.g. Mitre saw, table saw, orbital sanders, drills, slot cutters, chisels etc.
o Joinery skills such as:
– Address, assess, and complete joinery layout
– Complete cuts, and drillings
– Make penetrating cuts and slots
– Shape profiles, complex shapes, and curves
– Complete housings, and check depth
– Complete countersinks, and hardware interfaces
– Install hardware
– Truss assembly
– Complete finishing (sanding, texturing, brushing) to high standards of quality.
o Able to safely and competently operate an overhead gantry crane.
o Able to install various hardware components such as Pitzls, Ricons, shear plates, etc.
o Able to speak, read, and understand English.
o Must have a good understanding of fractions in both imperial and metric units.
o Must be detail oriented with an understanding of high-quality standards.
– Education
o Minimum High School diploma or equivalent.
– Characteristics
o Candidate works well independently but is also able to be a valuable team member. They are a good communicator, active listener, and follows direction well. The candidate for this position is physically fit, able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs., and work 8 hours in a standing position. We are looking for a candidate with a good work ethic and positive attitude. The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys working with tools and is comfortable in a workshop environment.
– Terms of Employment
o Full-time, 40 hours per week, 5 days per week (Mon to Fri)
– Total Compensation
o Starting wage, $26.78 with a 4% increase after a 90-day probationary period.
o Annually, as of January 1st, COLA increases as per Bank of Canada inflation rate.
o Medical and dental benefits including life, disability, and critical illness are offered after completion of successful 90-day probation. Fifty percent of monthly premium costs are paid by FraserWood.
After one year of service, enrollment into our RRSP matching program is available. Depending on the years of service, FraserWood will match contributions from 2% up to a maximum of 6%.
