AWMAC Southern Alberta Inspector Job Responsibilities:
Maintains quality standards by inspecting architectural woodwork projects to verify compliance with the North American Architectural Woodwork Standards (NAAWS) manual.

Inspector Qualifications:

Must have Journeyman Cabinetmaker certification or equivalent

Inspector Skills:

  • Familiar with NAAWS, latest edition
  • Knowledgeable of building construction in general
  • Familiar with plans, specifications, and shop drawings
  • Knowledgeable of architectural woodwork in particular
  • Competent in the use of word processing software and electronic mail
  • Very organized, meticulous and have excellent time management skills
  • Must be able to produce concise, comprehensive and well written reports
  • Must be available to perform inspections in a timely manner
  • Must be physically able to perform job-site inspections
  • Must be impartial and not in conflict with the work being inspected
  • Must be aware of and abide by site specific safety requirements

Inspector Job Duties:
Administration

  • Set up new job files and schedule site inspections (regularly communicate with General Contractors, Design Authority and Millwork Manufacturers)
  • Complete reports and logs; input data into electronic file’s

Inspections

  • Review, analyze and approve incoming shop drawings and materials list by confirming specifications; communicating required adjustments via written report
  • Review/Inspect mock-up production by confirming specifications; conducting visual and measurement tests; communicating required adjustments via written report
  • Review/Inspect finished products by confirming specifications; conducting visual and measurement tests; communicating any deficiencies via inspection report

Compensation

You must be available during regular business hours, site inspections can not be performed during evenings or weekends however report writing can. This position is part time with variable hours. Preference will be given to a retired person looking for casual part time work.

  • Inspectors are contracted as independent consultants to the Chapter on a per-project basis. Inspectors work on a set Chapter fee involving a set hourly rate, travel time, vehicle mileage allowance and reimbursements for relevant out-of-pocket expenses
  • Inspectors invoice the Chapter for inspections under taken. As an independent consultant, the inspector is liable for all government taxes, insurance, etc.
  • Wage is negotiable and will be based on experience. Current AWMAC SA GIS Inspector wages are as follows: Interim/Training – $45/hour Certified – $50/hour
