COMPANY SUMMARY:

AWFI is a custom Canadian millwork and manufacturing firm specializing in commercial architectural projects that has been operating in the Toronto area for over 25 years. We are AWMAC award winning, and LEED certified and educated in the Disney Approach to quality service and have produced millwork in over 1600 construction projects internationally, 1000 of which in the greater Toronto area alone.

AWFI creates a variety of high-end custom millwork, casework, architectural woodwork, surface cladding and themed spaces for restaurants, hotels, casinos, entertainment facilities, condominiums, malls and many other public spaces.

**We are currently looking to fill 6 cabinetmaker positions

*These are new headcount positions

*Salary range is $25 to $30 per hour and is dependant on experience

JOB SUMMARY:

As a Cabinet maker at AWFI, you will be responsible for creating high-quality custom cabinetry, furniture, and woodwork for residential and commercial projects. This position requires expertise in woodworking, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret technical drawings and blueprints to craft products that meet precise specifications. You will work with various types of wood, veneers, laminates, and other materials to construct, assemble, and install cabinets and millwork fixtures.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

·         Woodworking: Use hand and power tools to cut, shape, and assemble wood components, including cabinetry, doors, drawers, and molding.

·         Material Selection and Preparation: Select appropriate materials for each project, ensuring quality and durability. Prepare, sand, stain, or finish wood surfaces as needed.

·         Quality Control: Ensure all finished pieces meet required standards for quality, fit, and finish. Inspect each project for any defects before installation.

·         Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, designers, and other craftsmen to ensure all designs are executed according to specifications and timelines.

·         Safety and Cleanliness: Follow all safety guidelines and maintain a clean and organized work environment. Handle materials and equipment safely and efficiently

Duties:

·         Carrying out all facets of woodworking; from milling and machining to assembly, sanding and finishing.

·         Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and specifications

·         Working with solid woods, veneers, plastic laminates, plywood, MDF, HDF, and particle board.

·         Operate woodworking machines, including table saws, jointers, surface planers, shapers and use hand tools to cut, shape and form parts and components

·         Trimming joints and fitting parts and sub-assemblies together to form complete units and reinforcing joints

·         Repair/restyling wooden furniture, fixtures, and related products

·         Well-versed in the use and maintenance of various hand and power tools used in woodworking

·         Sanding wooden surfaces and applying veneers, stain, paint or polish to finished products

·         Preparing and applying laminated plastics to wood surface

Skill Requirements:

*Must have 4 -7 years previous experience as cabinetmaker / carpenter

·         Knowledgeable in the use and application of various adhesives and finishes involved with woodworking.

·         Familiar with the safe operation of all stationary machinery such as ripsaw, radial arm saw, jointer, thickness planer, edge sander, wide belt sander, panel saw, table saw, mitre saw, and drill press.

·         Well-versed in the use and maintenance of various hand and power tools used in woodworking

·         Able to read and interpret Metric architectural drawings, shop drawings, cutting bills, and bill of materials.

·         Ability to be productive independently or as part of a team working on a large project.

·         Ability to work with non-conventional woodworking materials such as metals, plastics, solid surface materials, acrylics, glass, large-format tiles, and composite materials is not required but an asset.

 Preferred Qualifications:

·         Strong understanding of millwork materials and finish techniques.

Working Conditions:

·         Full-time, with occasional overtime or weekend work, depending on project deadlines

·         Physical work may involve lifting 10 – 50lbs

·         Standing for long periods and using tools and machinery

·         Exposure to wood dust
