Cabinetmakers build and repair cabinets, furniture and millwork using solid wood, composite materials, metals, plastics and laminates. The role is essential in our organization which upholds a reputation for delivering excellence in carpentry and woodworking craftmanship.
What we do: Our design/build firm specializes in residential construction including architectural millwork and cabinetmaking. While our expertise lies in renovations, additions, and building custom homes, our work focuses on those areas requiring cabinetry such as kitchens, bathrooms, offices, and other areas in the home requiring custom-made furniture and cabinetry.
Skill and educational requirements:
– Secondary school diploma
– Certificate of Qualification or equivalent work experience
– Ability to read, write and speak English with proficiency
– Driver’s license
Physical demands:
– Ability to stand for long periods of time
– Dexterity and grip strength: must be able to use hands to handle, control, feel, lift, and move materials, objects, and tools as necessary
– Body movement: must be able to bend, twist, kneel, stoop, crouch, and crawl in order to work on, in and around objects to build and install cabinets of various sizes
– Repetition of tasks and movements
– Working at heights
Job duties:
– Demonstrate a high level of execution in all areas of the most recently published Cabinetmaker Training Standards
– Build, repair, finish, deliver, and install cabinets, furniture, architectural millwork, and other related objects
– Work well, safely, and knowledgably with various materials including, but not limited to, trees, lumber, composites, sheet-goods, plastics, metal, laminates, adhesives, hardware, finishes, and other materials as necessary
– Set up, operate, and maintain the equipment, tools, fixtures, jigs, safety gear, and other items related to the cabinetmaking trade
– Contribute to the well being of the organization by assessing quality of product throughout processing
– Follow company policies and adhere to health and safety regulations and training requirements
– Provide and maintain a set of personal hand tools including cordless drill and driver for own use
– Use company provided PPE as necessary
– Work cooperatively and collaboratively with team members, and follow supervisors directions conscientiously while contributing positively to a supportive work environment.
– Maintain a personal vehicle for transportation to and from job sites
– Maintain consistent attendance and punctuality in fulfilling work obligations
– Maintain an efficient work pace, focus and productivity in completing tasks
– Show an interest in continuous learning: cabinetmaking is a dynamic field with constantly evolving techniques, materials, and technologies – continuously seek opportunities to expand knowledge and stay up-to-date on industry trends and skills improvement
