Visual Elements is a value-added manufacturer of custom retail fixtures, components and visual merchandising products based in Toronto.  We work closely with designers and architects to create superior quality consumer environments and develop new products and finishes to meet the demands of a globally competitive retail sector. From full retail environments to a store fixture to retail shelving to a simple visual display, our custom fixtures become part of the retail environments of some of the most prestigious retailers worldwide.

The Estimator is responsible for evaluating and preparing detailed cost estimates for the production and installation of custom metal and wood fixtures. Through collaboration with the client, design, manufacturing, and suppliers, the role involves analyzing project specifications and manufacturing processes to ensure accurate pricing of materials, labour, and overhead. The Estimator will be responsible to:

  • Provide precise job estimates for custom retail fixtures, ensuring all material costs (including wood, metal, glass, acrylic, fabric and electrical components) and labour hours are accurately listed.
  • Analyze architectural drawings, project renderings, and specifications to determine the scope of work and material requirements.
  • Collaborate with clients and designers to discuss project requirements, clarify details, and request additional information as needed.
  • Manage multiple estimating projects concurrently, prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Compile comprehensive lists of materials required for manufacturing custom items, ensuring all components are accounted for.
  • Fully understand custom manufacturing processes in order to accurately estimate labour hours required for the production of custom fixtures (factoring in complexity and production methods).
  • Work closely with production teams to understand manufacturing capabilities and constraints, ensuring estimates are realistic and achievable.
  • Monitor changes or revisions to project plans and update estimates accordingly.
  • Input and maintain all quotes and related data within the ERP system to ensure up-to-date records and facilitate project tracking.
  • Review previously completed work orders to assess the accuracy of material and labour costs, ensuring consistency in future estimates.
  • Participate in project kick off meetings to ensure all necessary teams have a clear understanding of the project scope, costs, and timelines.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement in estimating practices to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, material costs, and manufacturing processes.

 

THE SKILLSET:

  • 6+ years of proven estimating experience in a custom retail fixture manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and costs related to metal and wood fabrication.
  • Proven experience estimating large custom client projects.
  • Solid experience working with renderings, architectural and engineering drawings.
  • Solid understanding of wood and metal grades and specifications.
  • Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Solid working experience with ERP systems.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • A positive attitude toward teamwork and strong relational skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to establish & manage priorities with a drive to complete assigned tasks.
