Foundry Tooling Technician

Reports to: Foundry Engineering Technician

Job Summary: The Foundry Tooling Technician is responsible for the preparation, modification, maintenance, repair, and the construction of new foundry tooling

Job Responsibilities:
• Repair all foundry tooling (pattern equipment) following the instructions established by Engineering
• Alter the gating systems design following the instructions given by Engineering
• Competent in manual bench work
• Construct foundry tooling based on blueprints or sketches.
• Comply with deadlines established by Engineering and Production
• Use utmost discretion in dealing with company and customers’ confidential data
• Ensure that the workplace is clean and free of any unnecessary tools
• Responsible for cleaning equipment and work station on a daily basis
• Meet production standards as specified in job order and/or ISO documents
• Operate equipment in a safe manner, including to immediately report any equipment malfunction
• May perform other tasks as deemed appropriate

Safety Equipment Requirement: The use of appropriate safety equipment as described below is a condition of employment and not one of choice. Safety equipment that must be worn while performing job responsibilities are as follows:
∙ Face shield
∙ Helmet
∙ Safety glasses
∙ Safety boots
∙ Ear plugs
∙ Respirator as required
∙ Apron

Experience and Skill Requirements:
• Ability to read Blueprints
• Prior woodworking experience will be preferred with 2 to 3 years of minimum experience.
• Good working knowledge of foundry processes and equipment operation
• Patternmaker must provide his/her own hand tools, as they will be used along with company tools
• Strong skills and knowledge using micrometers, calipers and other gauges, as well as wood and metal processing machinery such as, but not limited to: hand tools, planer, jointer, table saw, drill press, milling machine, and general pattern shop equipment
• Ability to work independently and within a team without supervision environment with little or no supervision
• Good co-ordination and manual dexterity
• Ability to handle a heavy workload and work effectively with interruptions and changing priorities
• Ability to follow appropriate departmental work instructions, including health and safety rules and procedures
• Good communication skills, including the ability to read, write and speak English
• Patternmaker certification is an asset
• Detail oriented with the ability to multi-task and prioritize jobs, and be highly organized
